Fabian Marozsan vs Carlos Alcaraz Tips and Preview – Spaniard Eyes Redemption On The Pathway To Glory

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, looking for his first title of the 2024 season, faces off against Fabian Marozsan who handed him a shock defeat last year in Rome, in the round of 16 of the 2024 Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament on Tuesday.

Carlos Alcaraz has had a quiet season so far this year and is still in search of his first title. Last year, Marozsan stunned a rampaging Alcaraz in the round of 32 at the ATP 1000 Masters in Rome, securing a straight-set victory 6-3, 7-6(4). 

Alcaraz has managed to hang on to his World No. 2 ranking in 2024 but has not done anything to challenge for the summit spot. The 20-year-old has a win-loss record of 6-3 this year. His best performance came at the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires, where Nicolas Jarry bested him in the semifinals. The Spaniard suffered a somewhat shocking defeat to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

While Alcaraz needed a comeback victory over Mattero Arnaldi (6-7(5), 6-0, 6-1) in the second round, he managed to dispatch World No. 31 Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. His Hungarian opponent, meanwhile, has reached the fourth round with comfortable straight-set victories in all previous rounds, making short work of Nicolas Jarry in the third. 

The first and only time Marozsan faced Carlos Alcaraz in Rome last year, he was ranked 135th in the world. He caused one of the biggest upsets in tennis history by defeating the Spaniard, who was a favourite to win the tournament after winning back-to-back clay-court titles in Barcelona and Madrid.
