Sassuolo Form
Sassuolo come into the quarter-final following a 3-1 defeat to Juventus on Sunday, a result which continued an inconsistent run for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
In the last eight games, Sassuolo have recorded three wins, three losses and two draws. Thanks to their early season form, they sit in seventh spot in Serie A.
On Sunday, Pedro Obiang's dismissal on the stroke of half-time cost Sassuolo dearly. They conceded the opening goal after the break to Danilo, before Gregoire Defrel equalised.
But the 10 men couldn't hold out at Allianz Stadium as Aarom Ramsey put Juve in front eight minutes from time. Cristiano Ronaldo sealed the win in injury time.
Sassuolo did win their most recent home match with a 2-1 win against Genoa. Jeremie Boga opened the scoring and assisted Giacomo Raspadori for the winner in the 83rd minute.
Sassuolo Team News
Roberto De Zerbi is also expected to make a number of other changes.
Midfielder Pedro Obiang is available for the cup tie despite with his suspension for Serie A games.
Forward Domenico Berardi remains out injured, as do centre-back Filippo Romagna and winger Federico Ricci.
Spal Form
Spal endured a run of just one win in six games prior to beating Frosinone in Serie B at the weekend.
Pasquale Marino's side came from a goal down to win away from home. On-loan Sebastiano Esposito levelled before Alberto Paloschi scored the winner three minutes from time.
The victory leaves Spal, who were relegated from Serie A last season, in fifth spot in Serie B.
During a dip in form, they had lost two in row to Ascot (2-0) and Brescia (3-2). Spal were 2-1 up against Brescia, only to concede twice in the last 20 minutes.
Spal Team News
Alberto Paloschi could be rewarded for his weekend winner with a recall to the starting line-up.
Goalkeeper Etrit Berisha is available again after a COVID-19 absence, but midfielder Lucas Castro has a knee injury and is out.
Head to Head
Sassoulo have won three of their last four matches against Spal. The two sides met twice last season in Serie A, with Sassuolo winning 3-0 at home and 2-1 away.
