Manchester United Form

Manchester United have been in fine domestic form recently. They currently sit fourth in the Premier League after drawing 2-2 at Leicester City in their last match.

The Red Devils led twice at the King Power Stadium but allowed the hosts to hit back on both occasions. Marcus Rashford scored the opener in the 23rd minute before Harvey Barnes equalised just after the half hour mark.

United again took the lead through Bruno Fernandes 11 minutes from the end but an own goal by Axel Tuanzebe allowed Leicester to take a point.

Manchester United won their three games in the lead-up to Leicester City. First they beat Sheffield United 3-2 away, then demolished Leeds United 6-2 at home.

A trip to Everton followed in the League Cup where Edison Cavani and Anthony Martial secured a 2-0 victory.

Manchester United Team News

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has plenty of options within his squad and will certainly look to make changes given the short turnaround.

He is likely to return to a back four to match that of Wolves but centre-back Victor Lindelof is a doubt. Bailly could come in to partner Harry Maguire.

Axel Tuanzebe is likely to play at right-back in the absence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Forward Marcus Rashford is a doubt but it is expected that he will be fit to play, however as a precaution he could be rested.

Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Alex Telles are all candidates to start as Solskjaer will rotate his squad. Edinson Cavani is an option up front for Anthony Martial.

Wolves Form

Wolves have been inconsistent this season and find themselves in 11th place on the English Premier League table. They are certainly missing the goal scoring prowess of Raul Jimenez.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side managed a 2-1 win at Arsenal towards the end of November but since then results have been a bit iffy.  That fantastic result was followed by a 4-0 loss at Liverpool and then Aston Villa won 1-0 at Wolves.

Wolves bounced back to win 2-1 at home against Chelsea, only to fall 2-1 at Burnley in their next match. Their last match saw Romain Saiss earn a point with a towering header at home against Tottenham in the 86th minute.

Tottenham had taken the lead in the first minute but Wolves deserved the 1-1 draw by the end.

What is quite clear is that Wolves have performed against the bigger sides but have failed to get points against the lesser ones.

Wolves Team News

Wolves have a day less recovery time compared to Manchester United and they have a far smaller squad. Rotation is not a luxury Nuno Espirito Santo really has.

Raul Jimenez remains out injured in the long run which could see Fabio Silva continue up front. Jonny is out in defence.

There are doubts over midfielder Leander Dendoncker and centre-back Willy Boly. Neither are likely to be fit enough to start, even if they are passed fit for the squad.

The one change Espirito Santo may look to make is at left-back. Rayan Ait-Nouri may come in for Marcal of the left side of defence.

Head to Head

Manchester United hold a 40-31 lead over Wolves in 88 matches along with 17 draws.

Last season they met on four occasions of which three ended in draws. Their last match finished 0-0 at Old Trafford in the English Premier League.

Manchester United vs Wolves Predictions

Manchester United have improved at home recently and have the squad to deal with the short turnaround. The Red Devils should be too strong for a Wolves side who’ve had a day less to recover.

  • Manchester United have won 2 of their last 3 home matches (Premier League).
  • Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes has scored 3 goals in his last 3 home matches (Premier League).
  • Manchester United have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 4 matches against Wolves (all competitions).
  • Wolves have lost 4 of their last 5 away matches (Premier League).

Verdict

Manchester United should have too much quality with their ability to rotate and an extra day's rest. There are not many goals scored in matches between these two so I'm looking at a United win and under 2.5 goals.
