The Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit will host the third Formula 1 Grand Prix of the new season on Sunday, March 24. The first two Free Practice sessions will commence on Friday, March 22, with the final practice session on Saturday, March 23. A few hours after the practice is over, the three Qualifying Sessions will commence to finalize the grid for Sunday’s race.

Max Verstappen has already taken a commanding lead in the Drivers’ Championship after winning the first two Grands Prix of the new season. The Dutchman has 51 points under his belt, 15 points clear of his teammate, Sergio Perez, who is in second place. Charles Leclerc completes the top three with 28 points in his kitty.

Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz finished on the podium in Bahrain but missed the second race in Saudi due to a Hernia surgery. Oliver Bearman replaced the Spaniard in the cockpit of the second Ferrari in the second Grand Prix and nabbed an impressive seventh-place finish in his debut F1 race.

The Drama In Australia Last Year

The 2023 Australian Grand Prix was a dramatic race that broke the record for most red flags in a single Grand Prix. There were three red flags during the race. Alex Albon’s heavy crash at Turn 7 brought the first one out on Lap 7. The second was flashed on Lap 55 after Kevin Magnussen's right-rear tyre detached after it made contact with the wall at Turn 2.

The third and final red flag of the race was waved near the final lap of the Grand Prix after Fernando Alonso’s spin caused a chain reaction. Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly's Alpines hit the wall, while Nyck de Vries and Logan Sargent were trapped in a gravel pit.

At the end of the race, three world champions were on the podium. Verstappen took the win, while Lewis Hamilton secured his and Mercedes’ first podium of the year with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso finishing third.

F1 2024: Australian Grand Prix Tips & Prediction

You can opt for different types of wagers when it comes to Formula 1. Verstappen is the firm favourite to win the race. Predicting the podium could be tricky, but the chances of Verstappen, Perez, and Leclerc completing it are high. When it comes to the fastest lap of the race, Verstappen will try to take it, but someone else could snatch that single point towards the end of the race. That someone could be Leclerc.

Verdict

Only an unfortunate accident or engine failure can stop Verstappen from winning the 2024 Australian Grand Prix. The Dutchman has been nothing short of prolific in the Red Bull cockpit. You can pick him as your race winner. Picking the driver for the Fastest Lap will be a little tricky as it could be either Verstappen or Leclerc, depending on their tyre strategies.
